Work Related Learning

For Key Stages 3 & 4 these programmes encourage students to think about potential careers, broaden their horizons and prepare them for looking for a job.

What’s My Job

A half or one day programme in which students meet and talk to business visitors about their background, education and
career path.

Mock Interviews

Students are asked to complete an application form and/or a CV before the event. On the day students have a pre booked appointment with a business visitor for an interview and receive verbal and written feedback on their performance.

Visit www.yourthurrock.com to see their report on The Gateway Academy mock interviews which took place on the 7th March.

Caroline Thomas, one of the interviewers that day, has written a log about her experiences and this can been seen at http://livinginthurrock.posterous.com

Presenting for Work

Tailored to run over a number of lessons or a full day.
This programme shows students what the most common mistakes are when completing an application form and CV, how
to present themselves at an interview and how to make a
good first impression.

Sector Role Play Days

Activities that allow students to understand the complex relationships between the local emergency services and council departments when a disaster strikes.

Primarily aimed at groups of schools or consortia, these events are reliant on the support of the local emergency services and related businesses.

Employability Skills Days

Specially designed days to incentivise reluctant learners, provide a varied challenge and ease the transition to employment, FE or training.
